“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.” The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.” -Deuteronomy 18:15-19 NIV
Imagine hearing God’s voice through thunder and lighting !!!
Or a great column of fire on the middle of the sky; that would make a great Steven Spielberg movie.
The closest we can get to that scene is standing next to a volcano that is exploding!!! You will say, yea right, we can stand our ground . Watch some movies of volcanoes exploding and see if the people are running towards the volcano or away from it.
Now you understand why the Israelites asked that God no longer talk to them.
Wow God will personally call someone to account who did not listen to Jesus. Remember the fire and lightning.
““The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them, ” declares the Lord. “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”” – Jeremiah 31:31-34 NIV
So in essence all people know Gods law, we just need to jog their memory.
Many people who are not disciples, confess Jesus name in an unworthy manner by calling His name. Does that mean that they will be saved ? I don’t think so. They become idol worshippers as the next verse indicate.
“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.” – Romans 1:21-23 NIV
“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” – Hebrews 1:1-3 NIV
Wow Jesus sustains everything through His powerful word, WOWW!!! So that means that my life depends on Jesus’ words.
““I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” – John 16:12-13 NIV
God’s Spirit guides us in all truth. The question is do you have God’s Spirit? The second, is He guiding you?
“Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”” – 1 Corinthians 3:18-20 NIV
So worldly wisdom is foolishness. I love quotes, but they have some truth in them but is not able to bring me to God as scripture does.
So the people who we do readily admire in the world being rich are fools in God’s sight. Should we not also treat them accordingly as they treat you with disdain ? If you don’t, the scripture is still fulfilled in saying that you are deceived.
“He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 1:8-9 NIV
The HS is able to keep us firm if we let Him.
“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!” – Galatians 1:8-9 NIV
How would you feel if there is a curse upon you? Like Jack Sparrow’s black spot.
Curses are scary and this one is by God. Make sure what you preach is in thd Bible !!! Secondly that ur living by it.
Eg. Infant baptism, praying through Mary, praying Jesus into your heart, once saved; always saved, I just have to believe; I am saved by grace
