Indescribable 2 – Holiness

1. We need to use the right ruler for holiness, measure it against God

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:1-8 NIV)

It is difficult to focus on holiness.

Set apart, perfection, righteousness, purity, flawless, blameless, indescribable – What words decribe Him ?

Infiltrates every other quality

It is who God is. No. 1 quality

These angels were without sin, and they shielded their faces with their wings

The angels declare who He is.

Nothing we see can compare with who God is.

God is transcendent above all creation

The universe cannot contain God

God is different from thought , words and deeds.

THe limits of our mind cannot fathom the indescribability of God

God has no equal

2. When we recognise God’s holyness, we recognize our unholiness

Do I have this same reverence and awe ?

Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word. (Isaiah 66:2 NIV)

Issiah is broken and undone because he relized that he was unclean

Do I think I am better than other people. I do not struggle with thatttt sin.

If you do not recognize your need for God, you haven’t really experienced Him

Do I indentify myself with society. I am only a saved sinner.

3. We see God’s provision

God eliminates Isiah impurity

Isiah’s sin was paid for in reality by Jesus

It is a picture that you and I can experience

Christiany is a funny faith. We believe in a guy who lived 2000 years ago, was crusified and was raised again.

Do I want to admit my guilt ?

Imagine you can start your live all over again. We can do that.

Our sin are zeroed at midnight

The way to God is not trying harder but to realize that Jesus makes me righteous.

We are forgiven because Christ died for me.

Isiah is now willing to serve, because of gratitude

When we get in touch with our sin, realize how much we need God, then God can work through us in our gratefulness to Him

We never get tired of serving God when we have this realization.

Deity, depravity and duty

It should be obvious to use our time to Glorify God

We should take personal Holiness serious. Take an inventory. Walk, talk, treat others, work, in the way on Sundays

Stop compare myself with myself. Measure myself by God’s standards.
