Near : A short time away in the future.
That word can evoke many emotions. Of suspense if you are writing an exam tomorrow or excitement if you are going on holiday tomorrow. You feel like jumping up and down, say the “yes” word repeatedly or looking for the nearest tree to drive into; not to go write that test.
Now when two prophets say the same thing it might feel like conspiracy theories.
First John the Baptist and then his cousin Jesus.
Lets have a look at that again.
Verses for Today:
In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” – Mat 3:1-2
Are you feeling it yet?
From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” – Mat 4:17
Now why would Jesus and John say you need to repent? It might be that there is an expectation from God; be right with Him before you enter to the Kingdom.
It is like a wedding. You hear of the engagement. Then everybody wants to know what date the wedding is because no one wants to miss the big fancy dress up party. Many time there is flights and accommodation; finding out and organize to hang with friends.
Now the day is finally there!!! Now if you were to sit at the wedding waiting for the bride to come down the isle. Suddenly a friend enters wearing his shorts and slops for the wedding you will be appalled.
You will feel like Gibbs in NCIS, slapping Tony. The words “hellooo, anybody in there!!!” comes to mind.
I think that is what Jesus would expect of us.
Prayer for Today:
Lord, morning. Thank you for your kingdom. Thank you that if was near at that time already. Thank you that we can get married to You. Help me to change for the better of me. You are an amaizing God. You want us to be part of your kingdom. What an amazing thought!!! Help me to have an great day, doing things that will have an eternal impact!!! Amen.
