Why are churches less evangelistic today ?
I think there is a very simple answer to the question.
Just before Jesus ascended into heaven He gave the disciples the last charge. Just before you leave the earth you would want to let people know what is most important in life.
“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”” – Matthew 28:18-20 NIV
In Mat 28:18-20 Jesus said to the disciple’s they need to go and make disciples, baptize the disciples and teach the disciples to obey.
It is simple; a disciple makes disciples. If you are not doing that, you are not following Jesus (Mark 1:17). If you are not following Jesus, are you then his disciple ? If you are not a disciple, are you then a christian ?
A disciple baptises people. Why ? Acts 2:38 says baptism is for the forgiveness of sin and that you can receive the indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit. In short; where you die to your old life and rise to live the new God filled life. (Rom 6:4) The response to baptism can be seem in how the Ethiopian eunuch responded in Acts 8:39 he went on his way rejoicing knowing that he has been clothed with Christ at baptism. (Gal 3:27).
Lastly is what Jesus said in Mat 28; is to teach them to obey. Are you teaching the new disciple that you have made and have baptized to obey God ? Are you in a discipling relationship where you confess your sins to each other (Jms 5:16) and encourage each other daily to live the life to which Jesus called us ? (Heb 3:13) Sharing your faith two by two as Jesus sent out his disciples ? (Mrk 6:7)
Was Jesus trying to be politically correct or did he share God the Fathers message with them that will judge them on the last day ? (Jn 12:48-50)
You be the judge of what Jesus said if it was from God and if you will obey the call of Jesus starting His ministry by calling His first disciples to be fishers of men and then ending His ministry by commanding them to go and make disciple’s.
