  1. Knowledge
  • He is a Being who Himself knows the deep things of God and who teaches us what He Himself knows.

10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God – 1 Cor 2:10-11

2. Will

  • He is a Divine Person who uses us according to His will.
  • Many Christians miss entirely the fullness of blessing that there is for them because they are trying to get the Holy Spirit to use Him according to their own foolish will, instead of surrendering themselves to the Holy Spirit to be used according to His infinitely wise will.
  • Do we rejoice that there is a Being of infinite wisdom who is willing to come into our hearts and take possession of our lives and use us according to His infinitely wise will.

11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He distributes them to each one, just as He determines – 1 Cor 12:11

3. Mind

  • Mind is a complex word, including the ideas, feelings and purposes.

27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God – Rom 8:27

The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. – Rom 8:7

4. Love

  • The Holy Spirit is not a mere unfeeling, blind power or influence that comes into my life and leaves no mark.
  • The Holy Spirit is a person who loves me dearly just as the Father and Jesus does.
  • Do I think of the love of the Holy Spirit often?
  • I owe my salvation to the love of the Holy Spirit as well as we do to the love of the Father and the love of the Son.
  • I was lost and He introduced me to Jesus Christ imparting to me power to make the Saviour mine; if it had not been for this kind, patient, always persevering, yearning and unspeakably tender love of the Spirit to me, I would have been a lost man today.

30 I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me – Rom 15:30

5. Intelligence & Goodness

  • Goodness is the beneficial or nourishing character elements of the Holy Spirit.
  • Here I can see that goodness as a personality trait is ascribed to the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament.

20 You gave your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their thirst – Neh 9:20

6. Grief

  • To grieve is to feel feel intense sorrow or cause great distress to (someone).
  • The Holy Spirit picks up anything in act, word or thought or imagination that is not pure, kind, unselfish or good in any way.
  • He is deeply grieved by my unrepentant sin.
  • What would your mother think of you if she knew your thoughts going on in your mind, would she be proud or disgusted.

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption – Eph 4:30

7. Convicts Us

  •  The Holy Spirit convicts us of:
    •  Sin,
    • Righteousness &
    • Judgement to come.

And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment to come – Jn 16:8

  1. Wisdom.
  2. Understanding.
  3. Counsel.
  4. Might.
  5. Knowledge.
  6. Fear of the Lord.

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord

1. The Bible Scriptures:

– Let’s see what the Bible has to say about God’s will vs. our will  John:

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 1:4-5

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teachingthem to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with youalways, to the very end of the age.”

Mat 28:19-20

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.2Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Acts 2:1-4

“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Mat 3:11

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:38

3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;
