Malcolm Gladwell in his book “The Tipping Point” defines a tipping point as “the moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling point”.
Ever had a moment like that in your life.
They say there are 3 crises in your life that significantly impact on you:
1. You loose your job.
2. You get devorced or loose a loved one.
3. You move house.
I knows what it feels like. In Desember of 2016 it was like a tap that was closed, I lost the 3 projects I was working on. That meant I let go of 2 staff members.
Eventually we had to move state because I could not find work ther any more.
Getting a job in another provice turned our to be one of those bad jobs you inherit that is 18 years behind in their progress. My boss was not qualified as a professional so that is why the job was in such a bad state of disarray. So I resigned without having another job to go to. Eventually I found a job that paid a tenth of my previous salary that we only lived on the bread line.
Then there was my father that passed away last year. It was very sad and we had a good relationship.
For me it is much better now, having a good job.
But my brother had a similar experience, getting devorced, loosing his business due to fraud and actually immigrating back from Germany to South Africa. He said he has lived his live, living with my brother he has no ambition left to get a work or to move on in life, he has lost hope. He almost committed suicide when he came back.
What is your turning point in your life that gave you that anchor in your life to weather the storms?
I believe this is my anchor.
Verse for Today:
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off — for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. – Acts 2:38-42
First of all Peter says here, Repent (Greek = to turn). Now for some people when you ask them to change kick with both their feet against you and have a bad attitude about it. To use a example, on the sigaret pack stands that you might get cancer. But what do people do? The think it is more beneficial to be in with their friends than get cancer. What will you think of me when I knowingly drinks a little bit of poison on a daily basis? You’ll think I am mad and stupid!!! I think that is what God also think. Repentance, good thing or bad thing? I’d say good.
Next thing Peter tell us to get baptized (Greek = to be immersed). Now what is the sinificance of that? We will have a look in the next study.
The third thing Peter explains why we should be baptised, our Sins are forgiven. Therefore this is the point in time a person is saved. It is like a free get out of jail card in Monopoly. Would you like to keep staying in jail or allow Jesus to bail you out?
The final thing Peter says concerning your salvation is that the Holy Spirit is given to each who responded — power to live as God commands. Ever felt powerless to change your life? How about getting a Red Bull spiritual energizer to give you the boost?
Now you know how to get right with God and what has been amiss in your life. I do not think I am better than my brother, I am just better off because of God’s Holy Spirit living in me!!!
Prayer for Today:
Wow God!!! I can get out of jail, yahoo!!! Thank you for the opportunity to be able to change and get rid of that spiritual and physical cancer in my life. Help me Lord to make the right choice for eternity!!! Amen.
