Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it — he will be blessed in what he does. – Jms 1:22-25

Listening – To make an effort to hear something. To pay attention; heed.

Deceived – To cause to believe what is not true; mislead. To give a false impression.

Do what it says – To perform an act, duty, or role. Or “Just do it” which is Nike’s logo.

We tend to forget easily. When you get up in the morning get dressed for work, brush your teeth and comb your hair. The worry you have is you hair still intact or your makeup for the ladies; you need another look.

It is funny as men we can spend hours in our garage to work on the car, our hobby’s, etc. but when it comes to our spiritual life we think it will magically happen by itself without work. Then we wonder why why we are not growing. Do you have the same vigor in pleasing God than with your work? Do you have a plan and are making it happen? The Bible does say “In the same way faith not accompanied by actions is dead?”

We normally feel good about reading our Bible’s and praying but is there a practical side to that?

One guy said you can only change one thing at a time, it is like golf we like to focus on that one ball. Why not start with lazyness and focus on that for a year because that is really the problem.

You might feel like your were just in a meeting and your were roasted by your boss, but you know that God would be happy when you make this change.

Practicals:

  • The Word of God is a mirror
  • Do not forget what you see — “do what it says”

Prayer:

God you know our lives. But do we see ourselves in the mirror and forget what we look like? I would think most of the time, like they say ignorance is bliss. Help me to be the real man you had me in mind. Let me take responsibility for my life and like Donald Trump says: “Lets make America great again”
