Who is Jesus? – Part 2 of 8 – Jesus growing up

"Define yourself radically as one beloved by God. This is the true self. Every other identity is an Illusion." - Brennan Manning

As the Word, Jesus was eternally present with God, active in all creation, and the source of humanity’s moral and spiritual nature. Jesus is not only greater than any past human prophet but greater than any prophet could be. He not only speaks God’s Word; he is God’s Word.

Jesus was the most extraordinary man to walk the face of the earth.

  • Even non-Christians that study his life stand in awe of Him.

1. The Bible Scriptures:

The Baptism and Testing of Jesus

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

Jesus Announces the Good News

14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

Mark 1:9-15

  • Jesus was from a small, isolated agricultural town named Nazareth in Galilee (in modern day Israel).
  • God parted the heavens and spoke to witnesses to identify Jesus as his son.
  • We see that Jesus was close to God, God was pleased with him.
  • Jesus came to bring great news; God’s Kingdom was near!
"It is significant that the famous last words of prophets ancient and modern inevitably point us to Christ."

Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

Mark 6:3

23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry.

He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli,

Luke 3:23

  • He grew up there and worked as a carpenter until he was about 30 years old

"The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ came to do three things. He came to have my past Forgiven, you get a Purpose for living and a home in Heaven."

18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 2:18

  • Jesus faced temptation from Satan, just as we do.

Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Ps 32:5

  • For many of us our feelings and appitites rules our life.
  • Does that make you happy?
  • I don’t think so; if I look at most actor and how their lives turns out to despair in the end.
  • So that bigger car, house, job and vacations does not fulfill us in the end it just makes us crave for more and more and more.
  • Jesus was seated at the right hand of God.
  • This makes me think of those midevil movies, where the new king is throned and everybody gives him a bit round of applause.
"Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.."

2. Close

– John I hope you got a clearer picture about who Jesus is now.

  • Man it was awesome, I did not think about all the roles that Jesus fulfill for me in my life!
  • No wonder I enjoy being out in nature experiencing God in the raw.
–  John would you please pray for us?
  • Sure, Francois.
  • Morning Father, Creator, God of Love and Forgiveness
  • I want to praise you for I am fearfully and wornderfully made.
  • God if I seek You I will find You, like you promised.
  • I pray that You will be my first love and that the world will not deceive me in following it’s desires and wants.
  • Father help me to learn to get to know You, just as in a relationship the more time I spend with the person the closer I will feel.
  • Amen
